How much protein should you eat?
There’s not a consensus how many grams of protein to eat a day, but experts like Dr. Gabrielle Lyon recommend
1 gram of protein / lb of ideal body weight
For example, if your goal weight is 125 lbs, try to consume ~125 grams of protein per day.
So about 40 grams per meal, if you eat 3 meals a day.
Why is this important?
It’s said that one needs ~ 25 grams of complete protein to stimulate muscle protein synthesis (build muscle).
Protein is also satiating. If you are full and satisfied after a meal, it makes sense that you are less likely to reach for snacks, or quick energy foods sources like refined carbs + sugar.
On the days that I follow this recommendation, I notice a huge difference in my hunger levels, and cravings.
Protein Reference Guide
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a free protein reference guide for you that you can use to determine if you are getting enough protein for your health goals.
I don’t track my food intake every day, but about twice a year, I spend a few days tracking to either dial in my diet, or make sure that I’m actually getting enough macronutrients like protein that I need for my body.
This has been a helpful exercise for me over the years, and keeps me on track, and feeling my best.
Look out for an email from me, drlindylouise@gmail.com, for your free protein reference guide! I’ll send it as a PDF, and an e-book format.
Slow Down
More on this next week, but sometimes we have to slow down, to speed up.
One of my goals in 2024 is to slow down. And this week, I was forced to.
I flew to my hometown to visit my parents for a quick trip, but my flight back home was canceled due to the snow.
My to-do list at home will have to wait.
Sometimes we are forced to slow down, and it’s good for us.
When is the last time you were forced to slow down?
Happy mid January, and see you back here next week.
